On April 16, staff at the Department of FISCal (FI$Cal) were recognized at the California Public Sector CIO Academy awards conference in Sacramento.

The California Public Sector CIO Academy brings together current and emerging senior-level technology leaders and the partners that serve them. The invitation-only event provides a space for leaders to collaborate and address the most important policy, management and leadership issues surrounding the future of digital government.

The following staff received California IT Leadership awards:

Jeremy Greever leads the FI$Cal team that supports end users by providing timely assistance, answering questions, providing guidance and resolving issues reported. Just five years ago, the FSC had a daily average of 2,000 open support tickets. With Jeremy’s leadership, the FSC has lowered the daily average open tickets to 500. The end users are getting assistance from the FSC quicker, which in turn helps departments meet month-end and year-end close deadlines. Jeremy has achieved this by ensuring the team is continuously updating their knowledge with changes in the system and state policies, providing training to end users and efficiently managing the ticking system to ensure tickets are addressed. Jeremy is committed to improving end user experience and has led several improvements. His efforts contributed to improved ticket resolution times and resulted in reduced volume of tickets.

Earnest Paul leads FI$Cal development teams responsible for implementing enhancements to the FI$Cal system and level three production support. Over the past year, Earnest demonstrated outstanding leadership in delivering several complex enhancements, led the application development activities to onboard two deferred departments, and led the implementation of Electronic Invoicing functionality using a software-as-a-service solution. His collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and his dedication to FI$Cal customer success have been instrumental in our sustained progress on the roadmap activities laid out in the California Government Code, section 11865.

In addition, the FI$Cal onboarding team was awarded a team leadership award:

Since 2013, FI$Cal has successfully onboarded 150 departments onto the FI$Cal system. Most recently, in July 2024, FI$Cal onboarded the California Department of Technology and the California Department of Rehabilitation. Both efforts were complex, requiring careful planning, meticulous execution, and high levels of collaboration among FI$Cal staff, agency partners, and the onboarding departments. The FI$Cal onboarding teams demonstrated excellent customer service, creative solutions to business process and technical gaps, and in-depth technical and functional expertise in the FI$Cal system. They also ensured that these departments were onboarded without compromising other critical department projects or responses to our existing end users. The onboarding teams exemplified our vision of delivering world-class customer service and innovative solutions while continuing to provide efficient system operations.

Congratulation to our award winners!
