On April 15, staff at the Department of FISCal (FI$Cal) were recognized at the California Public Sector CIO Academy awards conference in Sacramento.
The California Public Sector CIO Academy brings together current and emerging senior-level technology leaders and the partners that serve them. The invitation-only event provides a space for leaders to collaborate and address the most important policy, management and leadership issues surrounding the future of digital government.
Two FI$Cal staff members were recognized for their work at the department:
Priya Mohan serves as the Chief of the Enterprise Integration Services Office, where she is responsible for managing FI$Cal’s complex batch processes and overseeing the integrations between FI$Cal, departmental systems, and several financial institutions. She also leads data conversion efforts when new departments are onboarded. She has successfully onboarded multiple departments, implemented several new interfaces with FI$Cal partner departments, and strengthened communication protocols used for problem resolution. Her leadership has ensured that FI$Cal consistently meets its obligations for time sensitive data processing.
Phani Kolli serves as the Chief of the Operations Support Section, overseeing identity and access management solutions that safeguard FI$Cal’s critical enterprise applications. His team supports more than 14,000 end users across 151 departments. Phani has significantly enhanced operational efficiency by automating manual processes, reducing the time required to resolve end-user access requests. He also spearheaded technology upgrades for the entire software suite, successfully modernizing and improving system performance.
In addition, FI$Cal was awarded a team award for its work to implement a software as a service (SaaS) solution to enable invoices electronically. As part of its digital transformation initiative, FI$Cal implemented a SaaS solution using Coupa, enabling vendors to submit invoices electronically. Departments can now review and process these invoices much more easily, significantly reducing manual efforts. Our teams worked collaboratively to identify an opportunity to improve operational efficiency for user departments and enhance the overall experience for vendors providing services to the state.
FI$Cal’s information technology teams collaborated closely with the department’s business operation and solutions teams to successfully deploy the solution. The implementation required a careful evaluation of the complex processes associated with invoice handling, identification of integration touchpoints, collaboration with partner agencies for feedback, and preparation of FI$Cal support staff to assist with the enhanced system.
Congratulations to our winners!
